Our Story
Nomad Detroit Coffee was born from a simple love — for great coffee and the community it brings together.
Co-founders Sean and Marcel grew up in St. Clair Shores, Michigan, where weekend bike rides to the local Caribou Coffee became a ritual that sparked a lifelong appreciation for a good cup. That shared passion stayed with them as they grew up, and the two went on to collaborate on projects together throughout their twenties.
The journey into roasting started unexpectedly. Sean roasted his first batch of coffee in an oven for a work project and immediately knew he was onto something. He brought Marcel in, and what began with an automated Whirly Pop on a kitchen counter quickly evolved into a consumer roaster — and eventually the commercial fluid air-bed roaster they use today.
Working full-time in the education and IT fields, Sean and Marcel pour their off-hours into Nomad Detroit Coffee. You can find them at the Royal Oak Farmers Market and at private events throughout metro Detroit, always happy to talk coffee and connect with the community that makes it all worthwhile.
What We Do
We roast small-batch single-origin coffee, sourcing exceptional beans from farmers and cooperatives in Ethiopia, Guatemala, Nicaragua, and Colombia. Every origin is selected for its unique flavor profile and the story behind the people who grow it.
Our roasting approach blends craft with data. We use a commercial fluid air-bed roaster that gives us precise control over every batch, ensuring consistency while letting each origin's character shine through. From the bright blueberry notes of our Ethiopian Wush Wush to the warm macadamia richness of our Guatemalan Catuai, every cup tells the story of where it came from.
Where to Find Us
We're based out of Hunt Street Station in Detroit and sell our coffee in two ways:
Online: Order whole bean bags shipped directly to your door. Free shipping on orders over $50.
In person: Visit us every Saturday at the Royal Oak Farmers Market, 316 E 11 Mile Rd, Royal Oak, MI 48067, from 7 AM to 1 PM. We're also available for private events throughout metro Detroit.
